> Enhanced crystal retention in bond
matrix
Usually pull-out ratio of coated grits can be reduced by 20-40%
compared to that of uncoated ones. Moreover, most of crystals can
be used to their full cutting potential. Right chart shows the proportion
of diamond particles in two used segments made of coated and uncoated
SMD25 40/50 during each stage of wear progression.
> High flexibility in selection
of bond matrix
Coatings can protect diamond grits from aggressive bonding metal
powders such as chromium, iron and tungsten. So tools manufacturer
can enjoy more flexibility in selection of bond matrix.
> Improved cutting efficiency.
The most important factor effected cutting efficiency of tools
is particle protrusion height in the bond matrix. Usually the greater
protrusion height, the better cutting efficiency. After applying
coatings to diamond, the protrusion height of particle increased
by 30%. In most cases, 60/80 can be widely used in segments.
> Reduction of cost
On one hand, tool makers can use more economic metal powders in
the bond matrix. Thus cost for bond reduced. On the other hand,
smaller sizes grits and lower concentration can be chosen in tool
manufacturing. So cost for diamond reduced. |
